Mother’s Gaming!

My mother’s Favourite game…

Now my mother doesn’t ever play video games, shet thinks they’re a waste of time, etc. the standard reasons a ‘grown up’ would give for not liking/wasting time on VGs. Of course what she doesn’t realise, is that gaming, like surfing, is much more than a waste of time.

I’ve already done a blog on gamers as sportsman, and this isn’t about that, its actually about an idea. An idea of my mother playing a game. Now it cant be one of those button thumping, sword slashing, super fast, thriller games. Nor can it be one of those platforms puzzle solving games. Nor the interesting, for us, sports games… except may be tennis pro, or something like that.

I wonder what she would play. She’s not really into machoism… feminist? Maybe, something along the Tomb Raider chain of thought, except I get bored playing tomb raider, what how long it takes to get anything done, and the number of tries it needs. Perhaps a Princess of Persia kind of game, that would be cool… Actually, I’d like to play one too, I mean a woman is just that much hotter than a stupid black hearted, or play boy prince. Hmmm… actually mother likes kicking butt, so may be she’d prefer one of those fighter games, you know Tekken 3 types… except that would fit into the whole, mindless violence bit.

Yup, even though she likes kicking butt, I doubt she’d by any of the mindless violence games… that rules out pretty much anygame I enjoy, or could enjoy.

Except may be racing games… but somehow I don’t see my mother spendnig hours going round the same circuit, again and again and… well you’ve done it, it can be irritating.

So what does that leave? Not much.

Gaming as part of Life, the Universe and Everything

Now I’m bored.

This is pretty much when I like to play games, but instead here I am writing this blog, which I’m pretty sure no one is going to read, and in the end, doesn’t really serve too much purpose after all.

I mean for all the amount of actual ‘positive’ it will add to the world, I may as well be playing a game. Though that implies that while playing a game, I’m not doing any thing remotely constructive or ‘positive.’ I’m not sure that’s too accurate.

Of course playing single player games is not really positive, for example winning the last race of NFS carbon, will not in any way add anything to the world, beyond the cost of the game, and if like I usually have, it’s a pirated copy I’m playing, then not even that, really!

But when playing online games, that’s kind of cool, and might actually pass of as true social interaction after all, you make fun of people, tell them they’re loosers, etc. and then you win. And in all of this, you’ll probably never see the person you’ve just called a looser again. And for what? Some immaterial little cyber blue ribbon? Does it really matter in the world.

Okay now I’m flirting with the much more dangerous philosophical questions of life the universe and everything, and all I know about them, is the answer to the question is 42. Now go figure.

Till I figure out the rest of the book!
