Fun and Games

November 26, 2008 · Filed Under Gaming

Now that I’m done with the RTS series, I have the time to think of other games.

I’m going to look at a few RTS games… and review them. But first, if you’ll allow me, I want to say something about Max Payne 2.  Its my favorite game ever, and none of the many games I’ve played since have been as much fun.

Which itself is odd. The game is pathetically easy, apart from the only partially erotic, or torrid, or interesting love scenes rather lame, in terms of story… the graphics are not the best, nor is the physics. As far as games go, it’s a badly produced game, like a piece of writing with grammatical errors, and badly structured sentences etc.

You know what, stuff like that, is called poetry.

Which is what Max Payne 2 qualifies for.

The game is just fabulous, in that its gripping, allows you live out all your macho/Hollywood action fantasies, ranging from pistol firing desperado, to quietly creeping stealthy sniper.

Perhaps none of these roles are fully developed, in that its not hard to kill with a sniper nor are the chances of you dying when you go flying through doors into a whole room full of gangsters very high. But the way I see it, that’s the point.

It’s a fun, pointless game. Ever heard of Dave or Mario, they are still, possibly the most popular games out there, and they aren’t remotely real. So are games like say, LOTR the return of the king, or Xena, and even a few others… so my question is then,

Is it okay to sacrifice fun, for the sake of realism… but then again, realism is what makes games more fun.
