Nintendo in Legal trouble over the Wii!

August 21, 2008 · Filed Under Gaming · Comment

According to Hillcrest labs, an American technology company, the Wii has infringed its patents.

The company has filed a patent complaint along with a lawsuit against Nintendo.

Hillcrest labs have sent the complaint to the US International Trade Commission, which could cost Nintendo dearly. As the Commission is responsible for banning certain products to be sold in the US if they consist of infringed technology.

The fillings say that Nintendo has infringed 4 Hillcrest labs patents. One of the patent complaints target “a navigation interface display system that graphically organizes content for display on a television.” Three other patents complaints against the motion sensing technology used in the Wii remote.

This might be a ditch in the middle of the road for Nintendo, the Wii has become the World’s best selling console and is still has the lead in the game console industry.

Nintendo says it has not received any lawsuit yet and refused to comment on the story.

This is not the first time Nintendo has been accused of using infringed technology in their remote controls. This is the second lawsuit filed against Nintendo this year it has lost the first, and has had to pay $23 million dollars in damages. This time it could cost it even more!

Xbox 360 stock sells out! In Japan!

August 21, 2008 · Filed Under Gaming · Comment

According to the Xbox 360’s official forum, Kutako, that it has been difficult to get your hands on a new Xbox 360, due to shortages in stock in Japan.

Microsoft’s statement on Kutako read:

“Currently, the Xbox 360 is sold out, and retailers are unable to restock their supply. This is a result of our own sales targets being exceeded by the actual customer sales. We deeply apologize for this inconvenience to our customers, retailers and business partners.
Here at Microsoft, we are moving forward quickly with console production, and plan to ship the standard Xbox 360 model out this September. Furthermore, we will sequentially be shipping out the Elite and the Arcade models. We ask that you please patiently wait until the console is shipped.”
It is odd that, a few thousand extra sales was all it took to finish of the entire month’s stock! That sends out the message that Microsoft itself believes that the Xbox 360 no longer has the potential for a large sales volume.

This coming at a time when the Xbox’s competitors are gaining market share, could cause some serious damage to the company, especially when the PS3 is produced in Japan and has no problems with stock!

Microsoft is betting on the patience of RPG fans!

Gambling in South Africa

August 14, 2008 · Filed Under Online Casino · Comment

Gambling is a very popular pastime for South Africans and many land based casinos are well frequented. Sun International has for many years been sole provider of gambling entertainment to the South African public and will now have some strong competition with online gambling making its debut in the market.
Despite the popularity of gambling and the continual growth of the online casino industry, local gamblers are feeling the pinch as the economy continues to struggle. High petrol prices and cost of living has forced South African gamblers to make some very tough choices when it comes to their gambling budget. International gambling companies have been very interested in opening up the South African market as the potential for online gambling is huge. South Africa Casino is the front runner in offering various services directly to the gambling public and is certain to get a fair chunk of the online gambling business.

The site offers gamblers news about the world of online gambling as well as access to various international online gambling sites. Special bonus offers and other promotions from the Online casino world are also advertised here. South Africans are new to the online gambling market and as such the market is still wide open. There is already an online credit card, UKash which will be sold in selected Shell garages, with this credit card South Africans can buy goods and services online without the inconvenience of conversion rates.

All the casino games advertised on the site has been reviewed by South Africa Casino to ensure that online players can use the sites with confidence. The games also have full descriptions of their rules as well as a “play” mode to introduce the new online gambler to the games.

While online gambling may not be fully legalised in South Africa, mainly due to tax concerns from the government, the National Gambling Amendment Bill will ease the way in no small measure.
