Gamstop has good news for gamers!

August 26, 2008 · Filed Under Gaming · Comment

Gamestop, the world’s biggest Game retailer has declared a 57.2 Million dollar 2nd Quarter profit. The retailer is predicting a sales rise of over 23% during the remaining part of this year. Its prediction in taking into account a $50 reduction in the prices of both the Xbox 360 and PS3. Chief Operations officer, Dan DeMatteo, said in a conference call “Our guidance continues to assume the hardware price cut we talked about at the very beginning of the year, assuming there is about a $50 price cut on both the [Xbox 360] and PS3 going into the holiday season.”

The statement that confirms the rumor earlier this month that stealthgamers reported.

Dematteo also mentioned that the sales rise would continue through 2009, “because most likely what will happen is the manufacturers will begin lowering the price to keep the velocity going.”

That is some great news for gamers who currently don’t have the money to buy either one of the consoles, and best of all it is coming from a very reliable source.

If Sony or Microsoft announces a price cut it will be the first this year, since throughout the year both producers have upgraded their hardware or software to boost sales, and now it looks like they have to cut the price.

WiiFit gets gamers off the couch!

August 25, 2008 · Filed Under Gaming · Comment

Nintendo is going to make playing video games an exercise! The WiiFit, priced at $90 will make you burn calories while you play!

The technology is great, although it does not support multiplayers.

A collection of games use the Balance Board, which is the size of a small door mat. It connects wirelesly to your wii console. Small shifts in you weight and balance are detected by the board. Your movements translate onto the screen, wheather it be your ability to cross a thin rope to get from one skyscrapper to the next or going down a ski slope slaloming, steering through flag gates by the help of your weight.

The mini-games that are organised in different categories balance, Yoga, Strength, Areobics. Some Games are open at the start and more open up as you play the different levels in the games.

Pikes, press-ups and leg extensions are the type of activities that would come under the strength category.

The balance board truly does give a promising revolution to the video-gaming industry that is heavily criticised for being unhealthy, and being a major cause of obesity amoung children. Nintendo has finally found the solution! The Wiifit might aswell strengthen the Wii’s already huge sales. Nintendo sold 555,000 units the past month, which is more than the combined sales of its two competitors the PS3 and Xbox 360.

Rumors! Anticipation for motion powered Xbox not over yet!

August 25, 2008 · Filed Under Gaming · Comment

Earlier this year Rumors spread that an X-box 360 arcade with a motion controller is set to be announced! Gamers anticipated that it would be announced at this years E3 conference but the conference concluded with no formal announcement. Then came the Leipzig Games Convention which closed yesterday with no comment on the rumor leaving a cloud of doubt for optimistic Xbox fans.

But it’s not over yet, according to a fresh rumor Microsoft has a gift prepared for the holidays, a $199 Xbox 360 arcade, packed with a motion controller and a hand-full of motion-controlled games.

The rumor started when a famous gaming blog received a phone call from an unnamed source, “close to Microsoft’s marketing department.” and stated that the new Xbox 360 will be target family oriented entertainment and is designed to compete with the Nintendo Wii, which is by far the best selling video game Console in the market.

The source also stated that the controller is purportedly made by Rare, and it would come in the $199 Xbox 360 arcade box! It will also be available for sale for existing Xbox 360 owners.

The authenticity of the rumors will be judged in the months to come, but my point of view, Microsoft not commenting on the rumor at big events like the GC and E3, it seems unlikely.

Good News! 360 Price Cut true!

August 22, 2008 · Filed Under Gaming · Comment

The prediction made by the Opposite Thumbs blog at the beginning of this month regarding the Xbox 360 price cut seems to be accurate. The blog predicted that both the 120 GB elite and 60 GB pro will have a $50 cut, making they prices $399 and $299 respectively. The site’s mole correctly predicted the release of the 60 GB Xbox 360.

Joystiq, a game-blog, has confirmed one of the price cuts and said theXbox 360 Elite will cost $399 on September 7th 2008!

This is a move that should make the Xbox 360 more competitive with the Sony PS3 and Nintendo Wii! The exclusive release of Metal Gear solid 4, gave the PS3 an advantage over the 360.

The PS3 has gained on the Xbox 360 and according to sales figures published last week the PS3 has outsold the Xbox 360, 224,900 to 204,800 respectively. While the market leader Nintendo sold 555,000 Consoles this past month, more than both the 360 and the PS3 combined.

The PS3’s blue ray gives it another advantage over the Xbox Stealthgamers mentioned when we covered the last months Quake con that ID software’s Rage would have better graphics on the PS3 compared to the Xbox 360.

This is good news for gamers and Microsft is making itself more competitive Sony might take counter measures to secure its place in the market.

Pirated Computer Games could take you to Court!

August 22, 2008 · Filed Under Gaming · Comment

Game Developers are launching an attack against people who download computer games illegally. They will be demanding compensation from thousands of families across the UK, for their illegal downloads.

In their initial stage of action they will issue a notice to 25000 people. Then take initial legal actions against 500 people who ignore their warning.

The 5 game developers on board include Atari, Codemasters, Topware Interactive, Reality Pump, and Techland.

They have appointed law firm Davenport Lyons, the first person to be ordered to compensate for damages is Isabela Barwinska, an unemployed mother of two.
She has been ordered to pay 16,000 pounds after she downloaded Dream Pinball through a file sharing website.

A partner at the law firm said “Our clients were incensed by the level of illegal downloading. In the first 14 days since Topware Interactive released Dream Pinball 3D it sold 800 legitimate copies but was illegally downloaded 12,000 times. Hopefully people will think twice if they risk being taken to court.”

From my point of view I think that this move will cause more damage than good for the Game Developers and give there consumers the wrong image. Suing your core market is not really a good idea. I also think that this whole idea is just another method of scaring people who download games illegally.
